Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency Program

Skilled Trades Legacy Project

Last-Dollar. Last-Mile. Life-Changing Opportunity.

Helps motivated people enter and complete existing training, apprenticeship, and employment pathways by using existing resources first and addressing the remaining barriers.

Existing resources first

Last dollar and last mile

The Skilled Trades Legacy Project does not replace training programs, apprenticeships, or employers. It uses public, employer, scholarship, and training resources first, then looks at the remaining barriers that can prevent a qualified participant from succeeding.

Last dollar

Use CareerSource, apprenticeships, employers, scholarships, grants, and other available assistance first. Dawn’s Heart would consider only a remaining gap.

Last mile

Address practical barriers such as tools, boots and protective equipment, transportation, certification testing, tuition gaps, emergency stabilization, mentoring, and employer connections.

Current status

Status: Planning

The Skilled Trades Legacy Project is in planning. It is not accepting applications, and no funding is being offered at this time.

The first stage is being planned as a small pilot, known as Trades 5, for five participants. Trades 5 is not open for applications. It is not a grant program, and it does not promise any award or amount of support.

How success would be measured

Entered, completed, employed, retained

This is the intended measurement model for a future pilot. It is not a promise of enrollment, funding, or employment.

  1. Entered training

A participant begins an existing training or apprenticeship pathway.

  2. Completed

The participant finishes the training or credential.

  3. Employed

The participant begins work in the trade.

  4. Retained

The participant remains employed at 90, 180, and 365 days.

Not an open grant or application

The Skilled Trades Legacy Project is not accepting applications and does not offer awards, scholarships, or guaranteed support at this time.
